Safeguard your Yahoo account

It's important to keep your Yahoo account information private and make your account hard to hack. A strong password, up-to-date contact information, and good online habits help keep your account secure and make it easier to regain access if you get locked out.

Important: No Yahoo employee will ever ask you for your password in an unsolicited phone call or email message.

Keep your account safe and secure

Tips for keeping your Yahoo account safe.

Change your password regularly

There's no better way to protect your account from being compromised.

Be sure to use a new password each time. And don't use the same password for different websites.

Create a secure, strong password

Reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your account.

Add an alternate email address and mobile number to your account

Having an alternate email address or mobile number helps us quickly confirm your identity using a verification email or SMS message so you can get back into your account.

Update your account recovery information

Be sure your alternate email address and mobile number are up-to-date.

Create an app-specific password

Some 3rd party apps, like iOS Mail, Android Mail, and Outlook, don't work with Yahoo second sign-in verification. To use these apps with your Yahoo account, you'll need to generate an app-specific password.

Sign out after each session

This is especially important if you use a public or shared computer.

If you've selected the Remember my ID on this computer box, signing out will disable that option.

Check your account's Login Activity

Periodically check the login activity for your account to make sure you recognize the locations of each log in. If you see unfamiliar logins, here's how to secure your account.
